As an IB school, Cordova High strives to foster international mindedness among its students and as the IB Mission statement states “to build intercultural understanding and respect.” Learning a second language is a cornerstone to this goal, and studying a world language introduces students to a new culture, its perspectives, customs, history, art, literature, food, music and so much more. 

All 9th and 10th graders, as part of our Middle Years Programme, will take a World Language course. In the 11th grade, students have the option to continue their language studies with our advanced courses. Taking one year of a World Languages course, and passing with a C- or better, will meet the FCUSD graduation requirement of 10 units in Fine Arts OR Foreign Language OR Career Technical Education. Taking two years of the same World Language, passing with a C- or better, will meet the UC A-G requirement for college entrance, although many colleges recommend taking three years. Students who complete four years of study in the same World Language may qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy.
